1. Assignment#16: Follow the instructions below to create the image you see to the right.
    1. You will need this file!
    2. When you post your completed image, include the following caption:
      1. In a short paragraph in which you explain the difference between the Magic Wand, the Marquee Tools, and the Lasso Tools.
    3. Grading:
      •  3 pts for the image being similar but not the same as the example
      • 3 pts for no white or grey around the vegetables
      • 4 pts for the caption in the post

For this project you will be using selection tools to create a collage of all of the included shapes in the original file.  The steps below are a recommendation, but there are multiple ways that you could approach this assignment.

The tomato:

  1. Select the magic wand tool.
  2. In the tool options bar: Change the Tolerance to 100, make sure that Anti-Alias and Contiguous are checked.
  3. Click on the red part of the tomato, it should be mostly selected.
  4. Hold down the shift key (you will see a + sign) and click on the parts of the tomato that you would like to add to the selection.
  5. Select the Move tool
  6. Drag the highlighted shape into the lower left area of the cutting board.  (Use the sample for guidance)
  7. Press Ctrl+D to Deselect the tomato (The marching ants should disappear)
  8. Click File > Save to save your progress.  (If the compatibility message comes up, Click OK.

The lettuce

  1. Select the Rectangular Marquee Tool
  2. Create a rectangle around the lettuce (make sure to leave some white space between the box and the green)
  3. Select the magic wand tool.
  4. Hold down the Alt key (you will see a – sign) and click on the white area to REMOVE it from the selection
  5. Select the Move tool
  6. Drag the highlighted shape into the lower left area of the cutting board.  (Use the sample for guidance)
  7. Press Ctrl+D to Deselect the tomato (The marching Ants should disappear)

The Olives

  1. Select the Zoom Tool and click on the olives until they fill the entire screen.
  2. Select the Elliptical Marquee tool by right clicking on the Rectangular Marquee Tool.
  3. Draw an oval around the olives (it doesn’t have to be perfect) by clicking and dragging the mouse diagonally across the shape.  DO NOT LET GO OF THE MOUSE.
  4. While holding down on the mouse, press the spacebar while dragging.  This should move the selection so that you can align it with the image.
  5. Once you have most of the olive bowl selected, press Ctrl – to Zoom Out
  6. Select the Move tool
  7. Drag the highlighted shape into the lower right area of the cutting board.  (Use the sample for guidance)
  8. Press Ctrl+D to Deselect the olives (The marching Ants should disappear)
  9. Click File > Save to save your progress.

Salad Logo

  1. Zoom In on the salad logo so that it fills the screen.
  2. Select the Elliptical Marquee Tool
  3. Move the mouse to the CENTER of the graphic.
  4. Click and Drag the mouse.  Hold the Alt key and continue dragging until the entire graphic is selected.
  5. Select the Move tool
  6. Drag the highlighted shape above the top right corner of the cutting board.  (Use the sample for guidance)
  7. Choose Image > Adjustments > Invert to change the colors of the selection
  8. With the Move tool selected, hold down the Alt key then drag the shape so that it partially overlaps the original.
  9. Press Ctrl+T and increase the size of the circle while holding shift key.
  10. Press Enter to hide the transform tools.
  11. Make sure the Move tool is selected.  This time hold Alt and Shift will making your 3rd logo.  (Shift restricts your movement to multiples of 45 degrees)
  12. Press Ctrl+T and increase the size of the circle while holding shift key.
  13. Press Ctrl+D to deselect the logo.
  14. Click File > Save to save your progress.

 

The Carrot and the Pepper  (This should be a review)

  1. Use the Magnetic Lasso Tool to select the object
    1. Challege: See if you can use the Lasso Tool (not Magnetic) to select the carrot, its much more challenging.
  2. Use the Move Tool to put the object onto the cutting board
  3. Press Ctrl+T then rotate the image by clicking and dragging outside of the box.
  4. Press Enter to hide the Transform Tools.
  5. Press Ctrl+D to deselect the object.
  6. Click File > Save to save your progress.

Finishing the Project

  1. Use the Crop tool to select the part of the canvas that you want to keep.
  2. Save your image as a Jpeg
  3. Post it to WordPress as a New Post
    1. Title: Project 16: Vegetable Collage
    2. Make sure the image is visible
    3.  Include a short paragraph in which you explain the difference between the Magic Wand, the Marquee Tools, and the Lasso Tools.
  4.  Click Publish to Post your work.
  5. Show your site to Mr. Levin and receive credit.
