SENIOR FINAL EXAMS


Objective: Students will prepare and reflect on their work form this year to create their final portfolios and finish cutting and posting their stencils project

NOTE: Mr. Levin will most likely be chaperoning the 10th Grade field trip on Friday (So he will not be here, but you will have time to work on your portfolio!)

Monday May 29th


Objective: Students will reflect on their work from the year by creating a portfolio page on WordPress.

Objective:

Students will integrate the threshold adjustments and custom shape tools in Photoshop to create a set of 5 vectorized stencils that they will publish online via WordPress (5), and/or print and transfer into a spray-paintable stencil (1).

Objective:  Students will identify Islands and Bridges as they prepare to make stencils for print.

Agenda:

  3. Click on the image above and then drag the Full Size Version into PhotoShop.
    1. Which colored images will have issues due to islands?  Use the eraser tool to build bridges.
  4. Work Time:
    1. Create a new file in photoshop
      1. 6in by 8in 300 pixles/inch.
    2. Use the custom shape tool to stamp one of your stencils to be printed
    3. Take the stencil that sends the strongest message and check it for islands.  Build Bridges if necessary. (You may use a combination of stencils, but your entire work must fit on the 6x8page)
    4. Upload your final image as a JPEG to: http://locke1stencils.tumblr.com/submit
      1. Include a 1 sentence explanation of your design AND your name in the Caption box.

May 14th-15th


Objective:  Students will analyze three different ways that street art can be used to send a message and create 4 digital stencils that convey a significant meaning.

  4. Today’s Task – Design 4 stencils – Try to use multiple images and/or text in the creation of your stencils.
    • One using juxtaposition of at least two objects
    • One that uses symbols to represent things (metaphors) or uses humor/sarcasm to create irony.  You may use personal heroes as well, if you can tell me what the represent to you.
    • 2 that send messages that you care about. (Use your favorite things, or most hated ideas for motivation)
  5. Post all 5 (including the one from last class)
    1. Create a New Photoshop File (Preset: US Paper)
    2. Modify the background to be a brick wall
      1. Sample image search
      2. Use the custom shape tool to post all of your stencils onto the wall.
      3. Save the image as a JPEG and post it to WordPress.
  6. Caption: at least 1 sentence caption about each of the images (what do they mean to you, which is which, etc.) [5 sentence caption total]

Objective – Students will interpret a tutorial to create a stencil image using photoshop by adjusting thresholds and creating custom shapes.

    1. What is Graffiti? Where do you encounter it? Who creates graffiti?  Is it art? Is it a crime?  How does it impact the community?

Objective: Students will apply the multiply layer effect to create a series of three images in the style of The Matrix and post them to WordPress as a SlideShow.

  2. Typing Test.
    1. Title: May Typing Test Reflection
      1. To what degree did your score improve since April?
      2. How did nitrotype help you improve?
      3. What additional support do you need with typing?
      4. If you could choose any typing activity for the remainder of the year, what would you select in order to reach or exceed 40 words per minute?
  3. Finish Project #37 – Enter the Matrix
    1. You will need this file
    2. Instructions:
      1. Use Ctrl+I to inverse the colors of the background and numbers layer.
      2. Use Ctrl+U to colorize the layer to the color you want.
      3. Show the photo layer.  Notice, the example uses a picture with strong light and shade.  Also, the background is solid black.
      4. Use Filter –> Pixelate –>Mosaic.  A cell size of 12 will make the mosaic pixel squares match perfectly with the number grid provided.
      5. Optional: Image–> Adjustments –> Posterize (4) to reduce the number of grey shades.
      6. To turn on the numbers: change the layer mode from Normal to Multiply.
    3. Task:
      1. In addition to the example we created together, use google images (or your own photos) to alter 3 images.  1 person, 1 object, and 1 place.  (Post the 3 to WordPress as a slideshow)
    4. Caption:
      1. Create a short fictional story that connects your person, object and place to each other.  (2 paragraph minimum, it could be a dialogue, event, or something based on true events.)
